Privacy Policy & Disclaimer
What the Refocus website and app handle, and the disclaimer that applies to their use.
Established: September 13, 2026 / Last updated: September 24, 2026
- The app connects to the network in only two cases: checking for updates and downloading an update. It sends no usage data or crash reports.
- The app’s settings, and a copy of the image you chose for the break screen, are stored only on your Mac.
- This website counts page views and downloads. It does not store IP addresses.
1. Scope
This policy applies to the Refocus distribution website (pages and downloads under https://k386.sub.jp/Refocus/) and to the Mac app “Refocus” distributed there (“the App”).
Please use the App and this website only if you agree to this policy, including the disclaimer. By downloading, you are deemed to have agreed.
2. The App
When it connects
The break timer works without an internet connection. The App connects to the network only in these two cases.
- Checking for updates: about 3 seconds after launch, and when you choose “Check for Updates…” in the menu, it receives the latest version info (version number, release date, notes) from k386.sub.jp. The check at launch cannot be turned off.
- Downloading an update: only when you press “Update Now” in the update window, it receives the new DMG from k386.sub.jp.
In neither case does the App send usage data, settings or personal information. As with any web access, however, your IP address and similar details may be recorded in the distribution server’s access log (see section 3).
If the latest version info cannot be fetched from k386.sub.jp, the App also asks an address on the same Mac (localhost), a leftover development setting. This request never leaves your Mac.
Information not collected or sent
- Personal information such as your name or email address
- Usage data (when you launched the App, which settings you chose, and so on)
- Crash reports
- What is on your screen, what you type, or which apps you use
To detect whether you are away, the App uses only the number of seconds since your last keyboard or mouse input, which macOS keeps. It never reads what you type.
Information stored on your Mac
- Settings (break interval and length, language, away detection, countdown on/off, background image file name, and so on):
~/Library/Preferences/com.duca.Refocus.plist - A copy of the image you chose for the break screen:
~/Library/Application Support/LockScreenBackground/
None of this is sent anywhere. See Uninstalling for how to remove it.
3. The website
What we count
To help run the site, we count page views and downloads per day.
- IP addresses and browser identification strings (User-Agent) themselves are not stored.
- To tell repeat visits apart on the same day, a one-way value derived from them (which changes every day) is used temporarily and deleted after 2 days.
- Obvious bots, such as search engine crawlers, are not counted.
- The counts are not shown on the site; only the operator sees them.
What we don’t use
- No cookies to identify visitors.
- No third-party analytics such as Google Analytics.
- No advertising or tracking tags.
- No sign-up or input forms.
- Fonts, images and scripts are all served from k386.sub.jp. Your browser does not connect to outside CDNs.
Server access logs
When you access a page or a download, the web server may, as a standard function, temporarily log the following.
- Your IP address
- Date and time of access
- The URL requested
- HTTP status code
- User agent (the identification string of your browser and OS)
These are consulted only for server maintenance, troubleshooting and dealing with unauthorized access, and never to identify individuals.
4. Third parties
Because no personal information is collected, none is provided to third parties.
5. Requests for disclosure or deletion
Neither this website nor the App holds information that identifies individuals, so there is no personal data to disclose, correct or delete.
6. Health notice
The App is a timer that gives break cues at the interval you choose. It is not a medical device, and nothing on this website or in the App is medical advice. It uses the 20-20-20 rule as one well-known habit for resting your eyes, but it does not promise to treat or prevent eye strain. If eye discomfort continues, please see an eye doctor or other medical professional.
7. Disclaimer
The developer and operator accept no responsibility whatsoever for any direct, indirect, incidental, special or consequential damage, loss or corruption of data, failure of computers or peripherals, business interruption, loss of profit, health problems, or any other damage or disadvantage arising from the use of, or inability to use, this website or the App.
The App is provided “AS IS”, without any warranty, express or implied, as to its accuracy, completeness, currency, usefulness, fitness for a particular purpose or safety.
Please use the App’s break cues, break screen and other behavior at your own judgment and responsibility.
8. External links
We are not responsible for the content or information handling of external sites linked from this website (such as Apple). Please check their privacy policies.
9. Changes
This policy may be changed without notice to reflect changes in law or in the App’s features. The revised policy takes effect when it is posted on this page.
