Getting started

Install and first launch

1. Double-click the downloaded MailDeck-1.3.1.dmg.
2. Drag the MailDeck icon onto the Applications folder.
3. Open MailDeck from the Applications folder. The first time, macOS asks for confirmation; click "Open".

MailDeck starts with no accounts. Detailed steps and how to verify the file are on the download page.

Add a Google account

1. Open "MailDeck > 設定…" (Settings, ⌘,) and press "Googleアカウントを追加" (Add Google account). With no accounts yet, you can also start from "最初のアカウントを追加" (Add your first account) in the main window.
2. Google's sign-in page opens in a separate window. Sign in with your email address and password as usual.
3. Once the Gmail inbox opens, the account is added. If you stop and close the window (esc also closes it), nothing is added.
4. Add more accounts the same way. Each account has its own sign-in; they never mix.

You type your password on Google's page. MailDeck never stores your password.

Basics

Switch accounts and services

• Accounts: pick one from the account list on the left. ⌘1–⌘9 jump to the 1st–9th account. The "アカウント" (Accounts) menu works too.
• Services: use the buttons at the top: "メール" (Mail), "カレンダー" (Calendar), "Keep", "連絡先" (Contacts).
• Back, forward, reload: the arrows at the top go back and forward in Google's pages; the reload button (⌘R) reloads.

Write a new email

• "新規メール" (New mail) at the top or ⌘N opens a new message in the account you are viewing.
• With two or more accounts, "ファイル > 差出人を選んで新規メール" (File > New mail from…) lets you choose the sending account.
• Turning on "ファイル > 既定のメールソフトにする" (File > Set as default mail app) makes email links in other apps and browsers open a new message in the account MailDeck is showing.

Unread counts

MailDeck checks each account's Gmail inbox about every 5 minutes, including accounts showing Calendar or Keep and accounts you are not viewing.

• Account list: the unread count for each account.
• Dock: the total across all accounts on the app icon.
• Menu bar: the total. Click it to see each account's count, plus "MailDeckを表示" (Show MailDeck) and "終了" (Quit).

Search all accounts

Open the search field with the search button at the top or ⌘⇧F ("表示 > すべてのアカウントを検索…", View > Search all accounts). Your words are searched in Gmail in every account you added. Handy when you don't know which account received a message.

More room, or hide the window

• Collapse the account list (⌘⌥S): hides the names and leaves a narrow list of icons and unread counts. Press again to expand.
• "画面を閉じる" (Close window): the button at the bottom of the account list hides the window without quitting. Unread checks and the menu bar count continue. Bring it back from the Dock icon or "MailDeckを表示" in the menu bar.

Links in emails

Links in emails open in your usual browser (Safari, Chrome and so on), not inside MailDeck.

Settings

Open with "MailDeck > 設定…" (Settings, ⌘,).

• "アカウント" (Accounts): the accounts you added. You can change each display name and color (blue, red, green, amber, violet, slate), and add accounts here.
• "危険な操作 > MailDeckを初期化…" (Danger zone > Reset MailDeck): removes all accounts and sign-ins and returns to the first-launch state. This cannot be undone.

Outside the Settings window:

• Clean View: toggle with the button at the top. When on, Gmail's Chat, Meet and side panel are hidden. It is on by default.
• "アップデートを確認…" (Check for Updates): in the "MailDeck" menu. If a new version exists it shows the release notes, and from 1.3.3 on (Mac) "アップデートして再起動" (Update and Restart) replaces and reopens the app. In 1.3.1, because of a defect, it says "MailDeck は最新です" (up to date) even when a new version exists.

Account list

The column of Google accounts you added, on the left of the window.

Sign-in state (cookies)

Information Google uses to remember that you are signed in. MailDeck stores it on this Mac, separately for each account.

Clean View

A view of Gmail with Chat, Meet and the side panel hidden.

Reset

Removing all accounts and sign-ins to return to the first-launch state.
